Clyde River Golf & Country Club

Hello and thanks for visiting our Clyde River Golf & Country Club history page. I would like to introduce myself. I am Oswald L. MacEachern, owner/president and course designer of the club. I am a lifelong resident of the community Clyde River, of which the golf club takes its name. I am honoured to share some of the highlights of how the golf course came to exist.
Clyde River Golf club was founded back in the spring of 1990 when the first 9 holes were built on land that was my grandmother’s ancestral home, and land that I once farmed myself. I aimed from day one to try to improve the club over time as finances allowed, and to potentially grow & expand if the opportunity were to present itself. This opportunity came on three different occasions as the course grew from 9 holes to be the 27-hole facility it is today.

The original 9 holes was a unique property perfectly suited to be a great course with so many natural assets already in place.

The golf course opened to the public on June 15th, 1991 as a 9 hole par 36, consisting of three par 5's, three par 4's and three par 3's. We started with a 379 square foot pro shop recycled from the farm. It would serve us well for the first two years until we made our first expansion in 1993 to 1492 square feet, which included a licensed lounge/pro shop area, kitchen and new storage.

After being lucky enough to be able to purchase 75 acres of land next door, our next expansion was to go from 9 holes to 18, which in turn created the signature hole Num 13, the island green which opened to the public on June 7th 1996. With this expansion, we felt the need to once again expand our pro shop to approximately 4350 square feet in 1998 in order to deal with the increase in business. In the year 2000 we did extensive mounding on several holes and other cosmetic changes to enhance the overall appearance of the course.
I had the opportunity to purchase the next bordering farm in 1996, which I believed was a chance to elevate the golf course’s stature as one of the best tracks on the island. The scenery was second to none. I made the choice to turn the primary 18 holes into a links style golf course to best utilize the scenery we had. Construction began in the fall of 2006, and the course opened to the public in the spring of 2008.

The next expansion came when I made the choice to move from our former pro shop to our new pro shop in the fall of 2009, which opened to the public for the 2010 golf season. The new pro shop is centrally located on the course while giving the best vantage points of the scenery anywhere on the golf course. With this move there was a new routing of the golf holes that are now in place .This move proved to be a popular choice among customers and members alike.

We now have a new dedicated 9-hole course with our former signature hole, the island green now serving as the finishing hole for the 9 hole course .This course has been proving to be very popular with the public.
We are very well suited to grow our business now and into the future, taking advantage of our great location, and as a very distinctive golf course nestled in the heart of the south shore region of Prince Edward Island, we hope you will stop by and experience our golf course and the warmth of the people of this great area of the island.
